Test Day Information

Arrive early
You should arrive early for your test in order to allow time for you to register and be seated for the test. Please refer to your booking confirmation email for details. If you arrive late, you may not be allowed to take the test.

Check-in personal items
No personal items to be taken into the test room (except for religious reasons). Test day staff will collect and safely store your personal belongings. Contraband items which are forbidden from the test room include: mobile phones, watches, smartwatches, hand-held computers, cameras, keys, hats, scarves, wallets, books, notes or food. Pockets should be empty. Test takers found with these items will be removed from the test and will not receive a transfer or refund. The Test Centre suggests that you leave your valuables at home rather than bring them to the Test Centre. The test centre is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

In the test room, test takers are permitted a clear, unmarked water bottle, wooden pencils, unmarked erasers, and the identification used to register for the test.

Show your identification (ID)
When you check-in on test day, a member of staff will check your identification (ID). Your ID must be the same ID that you used when you booked the test. It must also be valid (unexpired) and a recognizable photo of yourself. Copies or other forms of ID are NOT accepted for any reason, no exceptions. Do not send your passport away for Visa extensions, and ensure your passport is valid before applying for the test.

If you are a refugee living in Canada, you may not have a passport or Permanent Resident card. In this case, please contact the Test Centre.

You must bring the ID document used for registration with you on test day – either your valid passport or Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Card. Photocopies of either document will not be accepted, please be sure to bring the originals or you will not be allowed in the test room.

Have your photo taken
A photograph and finger scan will be taken when you register on Test Day.

Have your finger scanned
Before you enter the test room, your finger will be scanned again to verify your identity.

Enter test room
When it is time to enter the test room, a test invigilator will guide you to your seat. Do not write any notes. You are not permitted to speak to any other test takers. If you have a question, put up your hand and a member of staff will assist you. On your desk, you are only allowed to have wooden pencils, water in a clear, unmarked bottle.

Take a break
No breaks are permitted during the listening section or in the last ten minutes of each section. If you need to leave the test room to go to the washroom at any other time, raise your hand and ask a member of staff.

Ask for help
If you have a problem (e.g. if you think you have been given the wrong paper, you cannot hear the instructions, or you feel ill) raise your hand to attract the attention of the invigilators. Please note that the invigilator will not answer questions on test content.

End of test
You cannot leave your seat until your papers have been collected and you have been told to leave. If you finish early you must wait quietly until the test is finished and you are advised that you can leave. You must leave any notes and materials on the desk.

If you have a complaint about the conduct of your test, you should make a complaint on Test Day. IELTS results cannot be issued until the complaint has been investigated and resolved to the satisfaction of IDP. For complaints not related to the IELTS test a feedback form is available.

IELTS Whistleblower Policy
The Whistleblower Protection Policy is intended to encourage and promote honest and ethical behaviour by providing a framework for employees and stakeholders to escalate concerns about actual, suspected or anticipated wrongdoing within IDP.

The purpose of this Policy is to ensure all employees, contractors and IELTS test takers are able to report instances, or suspected instances, of unethical, improper, unlawful or undesirable conduct without fear of intimidation or reprisal.

This Policy applies to all employees, contractors, consultants of the IDP and IELTS test takers. We act in the best interest of a staff member/ test taker who raises a complaint under this policy to protect them from victimisation, adverse reaction or intimidation and the public disclosure of their identity.

Support and protection of whistleblowers are considered an important aspect of all managers’ obligations.

All staff and IELTS stakeholders are permitted and encouraged to report under this Policy to any IDP IELTS staff members whom they are comfortable approaching either in person or to the contact details on our contact page
